 | TAKING POSITIVE ACTION | | | | | One step at a time ... | Posted by Keith Haynes on 22/02/2012 @ 07:30 |
I was carrying out a review meeting with a new business owner who was on a two months trial of Nigel Botterill's Entrepreneur's Circle recently and the enthusiasm to succeed was electrifying. Unfortunately the new business owner was not focussing on the really important challenges ...
always keep it simple and smart
It's often the same when you're setting up a new business because you want to get everything in place and perfect: websites, brochures, business cards, selling products on-line; it all had to be done immediately! There was a danger they were going round and round in circles.
My first piece of advice was to remember the old KISS principle: Keep It Simple and Smart! By focusing on the services provided, avatars (ideal customer profiles) and their location, they could begin to earn from taking action and then pay to outsource the other important tasks to professionals. This makes good economic sense by delegating work that either costs far less that the business owner's rate or use 'specialists' as they take a far shorter time than an 'amateur'.
The next important step was to take massive action. So with a little bit of coaching they identified the action that was essential to move the business forward immediately - to use up the existing marketing material in the location that best fitted their main avatar group. Then we set down deadlines for each action to take place and began to see a return on this action almost immediately. Now income was beginning to flow through the business, allowing the funding for updating the website, brochures and business cards.
With ongoing coaching we kept it simple and SMART by setting Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timed goals, objectives and outcomes. Work on the website has been contracted out, the new brochures and business cards are being printed and the on-line product sales will be schedule next month.
So the moral of this week's blog is Keep It Simple and Smart. If you want help with your business development then come along to the Entrepreneur's Circle 'Flying Start' event where you will get:
